Aiming to raise awareness of the Canadian professionals towards the European agri-food certification framework and the Italian PDO and PGI labels.

Aiming to educate the Canadian consumers about the characteristics of authentic Italian agri-food products.

Aiming to develop and strengthen the presence of Italian quality products in the Western Canadian market.

The project True Italian Taste is promoted and financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and implemented by Assocamerestero in collaboration with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada West and Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad, to enhance and safeguard the authentic Italian food product. True Italian Taste is part of the program “The Extraordinary Italian Taste“.

The project is part of a national campaign whose main goal is to promote awareness in the world about the authentic and certified agri-food Italian products, as in the continent supermarkets’ shelves extensively host many products evoking Italy, neither having any connection to Italy, nor involving an Italian manufacture.

The Italian Chamber of Commerce of Canada – West has developed many activities in the past years within the program Extraordinary Italian Taste, including: 

EDUCATION
- Media Dinner Series at local Ospitalita` Italiana approved Italian restaurants
- Sponsorships of incoming tours to Italy and  to  Italian trade shows for food and wine importers and distributors.
- Sponsorship of Educational Tours for selected local media representatives and influencers: the “If food could talk” educational series. Our “True Italian Taste ambassadors” that participated in the tour were: Michele Marko (Vancouver Sun), Mijune Pak (Follow Me Foodie), Leeta Liepins (Our City Tonight TV Show on CHECK TV) and Liora Ipsum (Daily Hive)
- Series of Masterclasses on authentic Italian food and wine products
SIGNATURE EVENTS
- The Authentic Italian Table, an event featuring premium Italian wine and a selection of authentic Italian food products (June).
- The “Italian Restaurant Weeks”, a 2-week event featuring authentic Italian products and special menus in local pizzerias and restaurants (June and November).
- The World Week of Italian Cuisine a week filled with events and activities dedicated to the unique Italian culinary heritage (November).
INSTORE PROMOTIONS
- In-store feature of authentic Italian food products in collaboration with some of the largest food distributors in Western Canada
SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS
- In collaboration with local media partners and influencers. Past collaborations include Georgia Straight, Daily Hive, Follow Me Foodie, Emma Choo – Vancouver Foodie & Our City Tonight.

Within the project, the main goals for the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada West for 2016-2017 are:

To educate the Canadian consumers about the characteristics of authentic Italian agri-food products;

Sorpresa! An Authentic Taste of Italy

Shop.iccbc.com is another new portal dedicated to the promotion of authentic Italian food products in Western Canada. The Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada –West, in partnership with local grocery stores in British Columbia and Alberta, have designed a Mystery box named Sorpresa! (Surprise) for all those who love Italy and its culinary traditions. Sorpresa! Mystery box includes a selection of fine foods to prepare an Italian aperitivo and dinner.
